Built at the end of the 12th century, this medieval castle, one of the most well-preserved castles of western France, houses a museum. The latest restorations (2006-2008) revealed the watchtower's transformations as a seigniorial residence.

On the occasion of the 220th anniversary of Charette's death (rifled down in Nantes on March, 29th 1796), the château museum wanted to recount the revolutionary period (1789-1800), and also to continue giving the keys of the island history.
The exhibition "Noirmoutier island during the revolutionary upheaval" takes place in the donjon, from the 2nd up to the 4th floor.

With its dominant position, the donjon offers the most remarkable view of the island. The castle of Noirmoutier is registered as a Monument Historique since 1994 and its musem is certified Musée de France since 2003.

Open from February, 6th to November, 13th 2016 every day except Tuesday.
Open everyday in July and August.
