Overview
After more than 65 years of neglect, the Les Cholleaux salt marsh, run by Laurence, has been brought back to life. Come and discover the marsh, how it works, the traditional harvesting of fleur de sel and coarse salt, and products made from salt.
The salt marsh is accessible on foot (via the ‘Chemin de Mer et de Marais’ route after stage 3, just before rejoining the D96 road) and via the cycle routes (marked ‘salt marshes’ on the map: there’s nothing quite like a break by the salt marsh: a guided tour can be arranged on request for walkers). By car, you can park in front of the black hut: the entrance is at road level.
Guided tours in French and English from 15 June to 15 September (weather permitting).
Tours in French: daily at 11.00 am by booking only, except on Wednesdays, and daily at 5.30 pm.
Guided tours in English: Wednesdays at 11.00.
Groups of up to 20 people are welcome by appointment. Private car park on site. Pets are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead.
Open from March to November 2026. (Outside these dates, by request).
From 1 March to 15 June: open from 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm every day, except at weekends (except public holiday weekends – open) subject to weather conditions.
From 15 June to 15 September: open daily from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
From 15 September until the All Saints’ Day school holidays: open every day, except at weekends, from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, weather permitting.
