Overview
The Noirmout’train offers a guided tour (with live commentary) of the north of the island of Noirmoutier, during which you can enjoy the varied landscapes and learn about the island’s history and the activities linked to the sea, the land and the marshes.
Throughout the tours you’ll take, thanks to the live commentary, you’ll quickly gain a fairly clear idea of what you need to know about this Atlantic island and the interesting places to visit, ensuring your stay with us is as enjoyable as possible.
Our tours:
The ‘Discovery’ tour (duration: 35 minutes) will take you to the north of the island. Passing between the castle and the church, we’ll head to Les Sableaux and its beach, the Bois de la Chaise, and the Plage des Dames. We’ll then return via the old town of Noirmoutier. Summer: daily at 1.45 pm, 2.30 pm, 3.15 pm, 4.00 pm, 4.45 pm, 5.30 pm and 6.15 pm (except Saturdays). Off-season: daily at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm.
The ‘Ancient Villages’ tour (duration: 1 hour) extends the discovery trail by continuing through the Bois de la Chaise, via La Clère, to reach the ancient villages of Le Vieil and La Madeleine. We’ll return to the old part of Noirmoutier town centre via ‘the potato route’. Summer: daily at 10.45 am and 2.15 pm (except Saturdays). Off-season: daily at 11.15 am and 3.15 pm (except Saturday mornings).
The “Salt Marshes/History and Legend” tour (duration: 1 hour) will take you along the Route de Champouroux towards the village of L’Épine and on to the port of Le Morin. You’ll discover the 400 hectares of salt marshes and the unique method of salt harvesting on the island of Noirmoutier. July and August: daily at 3.30 pm (except Saturdays). Off-season: minimum 15 people (by booking only).
The 2-hour tour: continues the discovery tour, starting from La Madeleine to the Abbaye de la Blanche estate, then takes you to the Port de l’Herbaudière. After a 20-minute stop to explore, we’ll return via the village of La Linière, taking you along the paths through the farmland back to our starting point, Place d’Armes (between the château and the old harbour of Noirmoutier). July and August only: daily at 10.30 am (except Saturdays). Off-season: minimum 15 people (booking required).
