Overview
A trained sailor, Francis Fortin applies his skills to artistic creations, such as bags monogrammed with ‘NO’ – the two letters signifying that the fishing boats belong to the island of Noirmoutier.
Today, Francis’s bag collection is complemented by a range of marine-inspired jewellery.
From the cut to the finishing touches – always inspired by the craft of sail-making – to the handles made from pieces of sheet rope secured with splices, everything is handmade. Following the ‘Journées des Métiers d’Art’ open days, a competition was launched by the Chamber of Trades. Francis Fortin won one of the seven ‘Mains d’Or’ awards presented by the Chamber of Trades. These awards recognise the welcome given by the business, aesthetic appeal, product presentation and the communication strategy in place.
Handcrafted from marine sailcloth, the range includes practical, sturdy and elegant accessories, as well as decorative items (round bags, market totes, cross-body pouches, coin purses, clutches, berets, jewellery, etc.).All products are hand-washable. The patina that time, water and air create on the fabric transforms each of these items into a unique piece. What they all share is that sense of belonging to lovers of the sea.
Minimum price: 25 euros – Maximum price: 250 euros.
Open all year round.
In season: the products can be seen at the island’s markets and at temporary exhibitions, such as the European Artistic Crafts Days in the spring.
Out of season: the workshop is not open to the public. Orders can be placed by email or telephone.
